THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERSONAL HYGIENE WITH INCIDENCE OF PITYRIASIS VERSICOLOR BOARDING SCHOOL STUDENTS AL-MUAYYAD IN SURAKARTA

Skin is the outermost part of the human body which functions as protection from various diseases. A disease arises as a result of the interaction of various factors. Skin diseases can be prevented by improving personal hygiene. One disease that often occurs on the skin is Pityriasis versicolor which is caused by the fungus Malassezia furfur and can cause the skin to change color. The incidence of Pityriasis versicolor is still high and is one of the diseases that Indonesians often suffer from. It is estimated that 40-50% of the Indonesian population is affected by the skin disease Pityriasis versicolor. This study aims to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of pityriasis versicolor. This research is research in the form of an analytical observational survey using a cross-sectional research design. The sample size studied was 81 samples. Data was obtained through interviews and questionnaires. The total research sample was 81 students with 39 students suffering from pityriasis versicolor and 42 students not suffering from pityriasis versicolor. Data were analyzed with the chi-square test using the SPSS program. The results of the research show that the p-value = 0.000 (p <0.05) shows a relationship between the two variables tested. There is a relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of pityriasis versicolor.
