Abstract

The use of technology in education is growing worldwide, with digital media like animated videos being used to improve learning. This trend is notable in Indonesia, where 40% of rural students have limited internet access, affecting the use of digital media. Despite these challenges, digital literacy and technology in education are crucial, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has sped up the shift to distance learning. According to the World Bank, 70% of schools globally now use distance learning, with animated videos being one of the most effective tools. Research by the American Psychological Association shows that students using animated videos are more engaged and motivated than those using traditional methods. Animated videos are effective because they are visually appealing and capture students' attention, helping them focus on the material. This study examines how animated videos can improve English speaking skills, their use in language education, and the challenges and solutions in implementing them. The research involved a blend of quantitative and qualitative methods, including pre- and post-tests, surveys, interviews, and classroom observations, conducted among 25 students aged 10 to 12 years from SD Islam Khoirul Ummah Sekarpuro. The Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology was employed, encompassing two cycles of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The findings indicate that animated videos can significantly boost students' speaking skills by providing an engaging and easy-to-understand learning experience. Students consistently showed significant improvements in their speaking abilities, with pre- and post-test scores rising notably. The study also offers practical recommendations for educators and policymakers to enhance technology-based learning.
